I've done this trip so many times, I can now do this without maps. At some point when i think of it, I would like to post tips on places to stop, or short cuts I've found along the way.
Until then, I am only going to offer these few tips for your drive to Florida.
- 1. Don't stop at 'South of the Border', unless you need gas. Despite all the signs you see that indicate it is the best place in the world, it is really not worth it.
- 2. A good place to stop for a little break, just north of Jacksonville is the Budweiser factory. You can take a free tour, and then get two free beers at the end of the tour. Or, take the self guided tour and get the two free beers without having to wait through the tour. Just take Busch drive to the main entrance; it is very easy to find.
- 3. There are three cities along the way that are worth stopping at to visit: Savanah, GA, Wilmington, NC, and Jacksonville, FL. Any other city is either too out of the way, or not worth stopping at. Actually, Charleston SC might be ok, though I have not been there since I was young.
